Shipwreck

Crash! the canoe jolted as we went over a rapid.

“Have we scraped the varnish?” said Dad.

“Hey! we are sinking,” somebody shouted. Sure enough the plywood was splintered in and water was filling the canoe. All four of us paddled as fast as we could to the nearest bank. Daddy turned the canoe over to mend it with duct tape. It’s a good job we had some with us.

Luckily the duct tape was successful and we managed to set off with the others, with only a slight hole, which I spotted later on. We were on Nick Hodson’s trip to Lechlade.
