As a section of the Camping and Caravanning Club, all our camping events are open to Camping and Caravanning Club members (including Canoe-camping Club members) only. Anyone participating must be a member of the Camping and Caravanning Club before attending a meet.

Please remember to bring your Club membership cards to all club events, since we are required to check and record memberships are current.  We also need to record BRITISH CANOEING numbers for those who have them. Paddlers need to be a member of the Canoe-camping Club and/or one of Britain's paddlesport National Governing Bodies*.   These are needed to ensure that we are covered by the Club's and British Canoeing's insurance.
Canoeing and kayaking are ‘assumed risk’ ‘water contact’ activities, however serious accidents are very rare.
Participants should be aware of and accept these risks, and be responsible for their own action and involvement.
All participants in club trips or meets do so at their own risk, and neither the Club nor its officers can accept any liability for loss or injury of any kind sustained whilst on a Club trip, meet or other activity.

HAYLING ISLAND - day paddle
Monday 06 July 2020
Contact Pete Bradshaw

peer group paddle where all participants are responsible for their own safety and the safety of others.
I have chosen the Monday to hopefully avoid any weekend crowds.
Overall distance is approximately 13 miles or 21Km.
Conditions on the day will decide whether we go clockwise or anti-clockwise. Which will also determine the start time/location, so this will be decided nearer the day.
If there are more than 6 of us we will need to arrange as separate events with a minimum of three in each event. We will need to maintain the min 2 metre social distancing other than in an emergency. If you need help with boat carrying then please stick to only using the same person to assist and let them only handle the front of your boat where possible. Anyone isolating due to them or their household members having Covid 19 symptoms must not attend.
You must also use a suitably equipped sea or touring kayak and be confident of coping with the likely conditions.

Please note Safety Policy as below.

Sun 19 July 2020. River Adur. Updated covid rules and recommendations will apply and of course could prevent the event, but lets think positive! As for other events this season, please make sure you are able to cope with the likely conditions. There is some fairly open water which any strong wind will affect, however the rest of the trip is mostly sheltered.
Please contact Robin for attendance and timing: email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., tel 01403267244, mobile 07748926236.
This is a there and back trip, so no car shuttle. Bring picnic and drink.
This is a tidal river, and today’s tides have times which suit this paddle. Meet at car park along south side of river at ‘Shoreham Beach’ at agreed time. Map ref.: 231048. postcode BN435HZ Leave the A259 at the large roundabout just west of the bridge over the Adur, go south, left at corner, then follow road for 1 3/4 miles. Car park is on left, overlooking the river, just before sailing club, though if busy we may have to move cars locally. There are public toilets within a 5 minute walk but they may be closed due to precautions. Paddle to Bramber and return. 12.4 miles total. This is one of the rivers that cut through the South Downs. So scenery is impressive.
Should be back at Shoreham by 16.00.

Please note the CCC Safety Policy (see below).

CCC Safety Policy: The Safety Policy document is issued to members and copies are available on request. Key points of the Safety Policy are summarised below.
Summary: Please ensure you and your canoe, are properly equipped. A briefing will normally precede the trip/event. A competent adult must accompany young people aged between 8 and 18 years who must have the parents signed permission to canoe (a form is supplied).

Shed use and Visiting Chertsey Campsite and use of facilities
To maintain the good relationship our section has with the site management and staff, please note:

Always notify the site office of your visit on arrival. You may be asked to sign the visitors book and produce your membership card as well as your keyholders card (new 2011), so always carry it even if you are a registered canoe shed key holder. The site is open to visitors from 9am when the office normally opens.

If requiring the barrier to be lifted to take a vehicle to the canoe shed/landing stage please be patient if the office staff are busy.

Should the office be closed between 9am and 4pm park in the car park and contact a member of staff to notify your visit. You may have to leave your car in the car park if staff cannot return to the office to operate the barrier.

There is access to the canoe shed at other times by arrangement as noted below.

Adhere to the speed limit within the site.

At the canoe shed park opposite the recycling centre to be clear of the caravan storage area entrance and tight against the hedge line allowing motor caravans and caravans to manoeuvre in this area.

Site facilities - the CCC has always enjoyed free entry to the site as day visitors to paddle from the canoe shed and we are keen to maintain this custom and practice. Site staff have noted isolated instances of CCC members visiting the site then using the showers after paddling and consider this unfair to resident campers. The toilet facilities are open to visiting CCC members and you should refrain from using the showers.

Canoe Shed Key Holders – check all lights are switched off and all doors are secured on leaving the building.
To access the canoe shed before 9am contact the site office/ leave a message (tel 01932 562405) on the day before or earlier to advise your visit.
Evening visits. Office hours vary with the season and the office should be contacted before 4pm on that day or earlier.

Out of office hours the barrier to enter the site is closed to visitors. Use the main car park and carry boats to and from the shed.
