In summer there is insufficient water to paddle, hence an early date. The river is grade 1-2, with some weirs that may be shot or portaged. Lots of bends with trees and possible fallen ones, so this is not suitable for beginners or delicate boats. Suitable for kayak & canoes with air bags.
Nearby places of interest plus good potential for walking for non paddlers.
Camping at Home Farm, Bircher, Nr Leominster.
Nearest pub is 10 minutes walk.
Friday:
Arrive at camp-site & settle in
Saturday:
Letchmoor Bridge to Mortimer Cross – 9 miles
1st mile is very bendy and an obstacle course last time.
Section from Letchmoor to Upper Lye rates as one of the most scenic I know.
Includes some small simple weirs.
Below Upper Lye the river passes through a steep sided gorge, but usually fewer obstacles.
Some small weirs plus one at Mortimer Cross which many will portage.
Sunday:
Lugg Green to Leominster - 6 miles
Includes 4 weirs that may be shot and good for playing/coaching. There are also 3 modern weirs that must be portaged.
Camping Fees direct to site. Prices to be confirmed.
2014 rates were caravans(1-3 people) £15 per night, tents from £14 per night (2 person)
