Cooking and diet

You need to decide on your 'menu' for the weekend in advance.  Typically

  • *  Friday supper
  • *  Saturday breakfast, lunch and supper
  • *  Sunday breakfast

You need to give your tester the menu at the beginning of the weekend

(You could write it or type it out for them, or send it in an email or SMS in advance)

  • *  Diet - The menu has to reflect a healthy balanced, varied and adequate diet, and contain hot and cold drinks.
  • *  Fresh food - One of your main meals must contain fresh meat or fish (or vegetarian alternative) and two fresh vegetables.
  • *  Hygiene - make sure you store and prepare your food hygienically (i.e. separate raw meat from veggies and everything else.)  Wash your hands before preparing your food, and after handling raw meat.  Have something to wash-up in.

The recipes on the following pages are all suitable for cooking on your youth test. You may have already come up with your own, but these may be useful

  • * One of your main courses must contain fresh meat or fish (or vegetarian alternative) and two fresh vegetables, which you have to prepare and cook on site.  These recipes all only need one cooking pot.
  • * Desserts contribute to your balanced diet.
